> Digimon
The first thing to do is, of course, pick what digimon your villager is going to be.
If you're unsure, you can take a look through this visual list of digimon.
- You can use any digimon but the design has to fit on an Animal Crossing body.
This means that the design has to be simplified - armor, markings, extra limbs and horns can be removed. If the digimon has no limbs, you add them. Your villager must stand upright. Naturally, if a digimon has several limbs, that means your villager could have several legs and a different lower body unique to some digimon like Arukenimon for example. Here's a page full of villagers from the game for reference.
- The design can't be customized much.
The base color has to remain close to the original (if it's blue, it still has to be blue), and markings can be simplified and removed but they can't be changed much. The eye color can be anything you want though (simple, non-special eyes unless the digimon's are unique). You can't add things the digimon doesn't have - an Agumon villager can't have markings, hair tufts or horns.
- The villager can keep or discard their specie's accessories but other than that can't have any special clothing.
Your villager is limited to what the digimon comes with and a random Animal Crossing shirt. Let us know you're planning to join and we'll generate one for you! It's best not to run around naked... We're all civilized here!
- The villagers are more human than digimon.
On top of having to stand upright, the villagers have no special moves. They can use what their body has, like claws, teeth and wings, but they don't possess any superhuman strength. In addition to this, they don't evolve. This means one of the villager's parents is of the same evolutionary line as them; so you could have a Greymon whose mom or dad is an Agumon.
If you require any help, don't be afraid to ask. We'll gladly assist you with designing the character! We encourage you to ask questions so we can avoid any design problems.
> Character
Now that you have an appearance in mind, let's look at what really matters - their character.
- When joining, character development is the core of what you should focus on.
Their personality should be 50% one of the Animal Crossing personality types (the gender-specific ones can be used by any) while the other 50% are up to you. There's no paragraph count or anything like that. You can leave plenty of room for the character to grow and change, but there has to be some basis to grow from. Do your best to not fall in the dreaded mary sue/gary stu category and you'll be fine.
- Digimon under 18 can't live on their own or have a job.
Some villagers deemed mature enough at 17 might get to have their own house, but all other kids will have to find another villager to be their guardian and live with them. Your villager can be as young as 6, though it's best if you don't go below 10. Instead of a paycheck, they'll have to rely on child support and their guardian's good will!
- You can go super in-depth about your villager's history or simply state how and/or why they moved to File Island.
Again, we're not counting paragraphs. It can be as long as five paragraphs and as short as two sentences. You could talk about how they lived before moving and starting their new life here or just state the reasons and leave room for the future. Also remember that while your villager can have experience with fighting, they're under human limits.
- File Island is 98% isolated, meaning that chances of leaving the island are a mere 2%.
There's a Trailmon going to the island but there's no transportation off the island. Not a very typical location to choose for your next home. It's okay to have family, spouses and friends from before the move but you can't move them with you to the island as NPCs. A way around this would be to have a multiple-way agreement with some friends and set up a small family with your characters when joining.
- Your villager can have a custom hobby.
Hobbies are cosmetic and are there to help give your villager personality. Of course, your character could technically enjoy doing a lot of other things, but the one you list should be the one that describes them the best.
